The Assistant Curator will work closely with the Artistic Director and Creative Producers to help bring the curatorial vision of Fluid Festival to fruition. This includes artist liaising, community outreach, and curation of dance cabarets.
Responsibilities
- Manage programming-focused meeting schedules, attend meetings as required, and maintain meeting documents;
- Assist the Artistic Director in organizing and managing curatorial ideas;
- Curate a dance cabaret, including creating a curatorial statement, issuing a call for submissions, reviewing all ideas, selecting a lineup and assisting the Artistic team with organizing all artistic details;
- Contribute artistic insights during programming conversations with the Artistic Director;
- Act as a liaison between Fluid Festival, the contemporary dance community, artists, partners, networks, and stakeholders in Calgary and Western Canada;
- Research and implement ways to connect audiences to contemporary dance performance through 1) encouraging attendance, 2) encourage discussion about performances that the community would like to experience 3) to encourage a conversation about the work and the creating artists;
- In collaboration with the Artistic & Operations team, contribute to the organization’s strategic plan for dance performance;
- Acts as a representative for the company within the community, including attendance at other community events;
Qualifications
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Excellent customer service skills;
- Knowledge of Google Workspace;
- Connection with the Calgary Dance community is essential;
- Basic knowledge of performing arts and venue services;
- Basic knowledge of event technical aspects an asset;
